The Great Ledbury Celebration, of food, drink, music, poetry and heritage, is on Sunday 9th July 2017 from 11am to 6pm
The Ledbury Celebration becomes “Great” this year and moves to Ledbury’s historic High Street market place to celebrate the 400th anniversary of the iconic Market House in a birthday treat of food, drink, music, poetry and heritage.
Discover the best of local food in the street market to enjoy straightaway or take home, while soaking up the festival atmosphere with entertainment throughout the day from a fabulous range of poets, bands and musicians – from brass to beat box.
Meet characters from old Ledbury, step into the past in the Market House and our special heritage buildings, and find out how these buildings were made.
Revel with the Morris Men, admire the dance performers, and be spellbound at the puppet theatre – entertainment for all ages.
Explore fabulous locally produced fruit juices, and taste our famous local ciders and perrys.
The Ledbury Celebration is a fixture in the local food and drink calendar on the last day of Ledbury’s annual Poetry Festival and brings out all that is best about Ledbury – “it’s a special day for the town and visitors to enjoy” – “it’s a wonderful opportunity to bring families and the community together and celebrate everything good in the locality.”
A fabulous range of poets, musicians, bands and dancers will provide continuous and varied entertainment by the Market House – including the Community Brass Band, Dancefest, the Sequins, Samba Galêz, the Silurian Morris Men and a special and “very local” beat box performer.
In addition to the Market House itself, all Ledbury’s heritage buildings will be open emphasising our “joined up heritage”, and providing opportunities through the day to step back in time to meet characters from old Ledbury. Local craftsman will demonstrate the skills which made these buildings.
The Market House will host an art and photo exhibition of young people’s work with a Ledbury theme organised by the Youth Council and including entries in a “birthday card for the Market House” competition. It will host other exhibits showing the history of the building – and a special birthday cake will mark its 400th anniversary. A “Bake a Cake for the Market House” competition is also in the plans for the day.
The popular Clapper Box theatre will again be there to provide puppetry fascination for all ages.
Parking: Public Car Parks and overspill parking at local schools.
Free event and free parking.
Full details of the event will be available at the Ledbury Food Group website, www.ledburyfoodgroup.org.
